Anonymous writes "I've been working on the upgradation process of a client machine's operating system to redhat 7.1.It should be noted that the server is running on Redhat 6.2.
The following processes have been done on the client.
Network configuration.
this has been succesfully done.
NFS configuration
In this case i was able to mount the shared directories /home and /s
.However i was not able to mount the shared directory /usr.When i
atempted to mount /usr(or restart the system) i found that i would loose xwindows. This prompted (after restarting system) me to closely monitor the comments that were being generated during boot up. What I sawcame as surprise. There were a number of failed process. I am listing them below.
Starting sshd: Starting sshd:execvp : no such file or directory [ failed ]
Starting Sendmail: makemap:error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.3: Cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
makemap: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.3: Cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
makemap: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.3: Cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
makemap: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.3: Cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/sendmail: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.3: Cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory [ failed ]
Running Linuxconf hooks : /sbin/netconf: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.5 connot load shared object file no such file or direcotry [ failed ]
"INIT:Id "x"respawning too fast.disabled for 5 minutes".
Then I found after further investigation I noticed some differences in the file structures that is created in default by the 2 versions of RedHat.
let me explain myself. The server which is RH 6.2 version has the library files libdb.so.3 under the /lib directory. Where as in the newly installed clientthe same library files libdb.so.3 files are found under the /usr/lib/libdb.so.3 and also under /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib. I have a feeling that the fact that these library files are in different locations may be contributing to the failure of communication between the RH7.1 client and RH6.2 server. As I am bit relunctant to play around with the server. I am trying to modify the file structure in the client as I can always reinstall it, if needed.
NIS configuration
I have configured the NIS(NIS server is RedHat 6.2 and NIS client
is RedHat 7.1) .The client recognises the NIS domain .In fact when
the command "ypcat passwd.byname" is called it even lists out all
the usernames and passwords listed in the client system.
However this when an attempt to login as a user is made ,the
following error
"user does not exist" is displayed.
Could some one please tell me how to solve this problem?."
