I started the installation of Red Hat 9 on our Compaq Proliant 4070 Server.

It started loading files then came up to a screen with the following lines.

Running anaconda, the Red Hat Linux system installer-please wait...
Probing for Video Card : Cirrus Logic GD544x
Probing for Monitor Type : Unknown Monitor

At this point the system hangs.

The monitor is a Compaq V55 Color Monitor which came with the server. It always did work under the Novell Netware that was previously the server´s OS.

I tried a different monitor also, same result.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried running text mode ? (>linux text) I´ve installed it of a Compaq V75 in both graphic and text and didn´t have any issues...you could also check that your CDs are a decent copy !

I was trying to install Red Hat 9.0. I found out that this version isn´t supported by the Proliant server.

I installed Red Hat 6.2 and it worked fine.

    Thanks.

Why dont you visit the XFree86.org site and download the binaries for the monitor if at all there is a problem. You can get teh installation information etc. on the site. RH 9.0 should not have any problems with the monitor but even if it then you can use Xconfigurator utility at the text prompt and reconfigure the monitor.
    Hope this helps
